This course will provide a detailed review of the position of SME's in light of the proposed changes to the taxation of family businesses in the FA 2008.
Objectives:
The taxation regime for owner managed businesses has never been more complicated. Some recent changes to the tax regime have significantly changed the way we look at conventional SME tax planning. This course aims to ensure that participants are fully up to speed with all the recent changes in legislation and practice and outlines opportunities and pit-falls by way of worked examples. - Incorporation planning & pit-falls;
- Gift relief problems;
- The settlement legislation;
- Tax consequences of different corporate structures;
- How will the varying rates affect the decision whether or not to incorporate?
- Family shareholdings post-Artic Systems and the rules on 'income shifting';
- Impact of the new capital gains tax rules;
- Changes to the capital allowances rules;
- Summary of Inheritance Tax reliefs;
- Other legislative developments and recent case law; and
- SME's and HMRC investigations.
